Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy (OT) specializes in the areas of hand rehabilitation, cognitive rehabilitation, and activities of daily living retraining. It is a dynamic and broad dimension of patient rehabilitation that focuses on "maximizing independent function and promoting an improved sense of well-being." Occupational Therapists (OTs) are the professionals that provide this service. They help to restore optimum functioning of the upper extremity and hand.
Kanabec Hospital has Heather Alexander, MA-OTR/L on staff ready to meet you occupational therapy needs. Services are offered 3 days a week.

Occupational therapy services that we offer:
›Hand rehabilitation
›Custom splint fabrication
›Fine motor and dexterity skill retraining
›Evaluation for home modification to maximize independent function
›Sensory reeducation
›Evaluation of independence to complete daily tasks
›Daily task retraining to include: dressing, grooming, feeding, work skills, shopping, and meal preparation to name a few
›Training of adaptive equipment and compensatory techniques to maximize independent function
›Cognitive assessment
›Pediatric assessment and treatment
